Dear Parents,
Our Valentine’s Day Party will be on Friday, February 12th. We will be celebrating by having a Valentine’s Day – Pancake Breakfast and exchange Valentine’s cards and treats amongst the students while dressed in our pajamas! It will be a pajama day for the students so they can wear their pajamas and tennis if they would like.
The Pancake Breakfast will be made in the morning of Friday, February 12th around 9:30AM while students are working on handwriting and going through our morning routine. At approximately, 10:00AM is when we plan to eat our delicious Pancake Breakfast. Immediately folllowing breakfast, students will be instructed to get their Valentine’s Day boxes to begin passing out their cards/treats. We should conclude our party around 11:30AM with a Valentine’s Day story before heading to lunch at 11:55AM. Please understand that this holiday is not celebrated like our other two class parties. It is very low key and simply a fun day for the students.

For homework this week/weekend, I am asking all students to find a box similar to that of a shoebox. The students are to decorate the box for their own personal Valentine’s mailbox. Please also make sure that there is an open slit at the top so students can deposit their cards and treats. Creativity is unlimited, let them have fun and decorate to their hearts desire.
Have your child bring their Valentine’s mailbox to school on Thursday, February 11th!

Additional Information
- We have 18 students in the class. Please do NOT have your child write the other children’s names on their Valentine’s.
- It is best for them to write To: my friend From: _________ (their name)
One Black T-Shirt Needed for December
Date TBA: Just a heads up that in December we will be decorating a black (long or short sleeved) t-shirt. I just wanted to let you know in advance so that you can plan and use any coupons if you have them. I will let you know as soon as we have this date as we will need some parents to help create our holiday shirt. :)
- When shirts are sent in: please label the tag of the shirt with your child's name. (Or pin/tape their name to the inside of the shirt.)
ABC Homework Information
A couple of tips on the ABC book homework:
* Goal #1 is to support letter formation
- Have them use only pencil
- Encourage them to take their time and give it their best... "Slow and steady wins the race."
* Goal #2 is to support their skills of recognizing the beginning sounds in words and writing the sounds they hear.
- Ask them to find or listen for words that begin with the letter for the week.
- Encourage them to listen for the sounds they hear in words. Please bounce the sounds they hear and have them write them down. Please do NOT tell them all the letters in the word and have them write them down. This is defeating the purpose. You can say the sound, but please do not say each letter in the word.
* Goal #3 is to identify the letter before and after the letter of the week. (bottom of the page)
** Please have your child color the letter on the front cover once they have finished that page.
